If the Merchant spawned first and took the house, the Guide won’t be able to return until there’s a house that’s available. If you haven’t “saved” him, you need to go back to the ocean. If you have already rescued him and have a house available for him, he should spawn after a while. How do you get the angler back after he leaves? They’ll also leave if Corruption/Crimson is close so make sure to keep the Corruption/Crimson away. Sometimes NPC’s will leave if you find them and don’t have valid housing to hold them. If he is killed, a proper house will need to be built before he can respawn, but has no additional requirements. He will, however, move into the first house built. Unlike most other NPCs, the Guide spawns upon world creation, before a house is available. It is also possible for another npc to take over the same house you want your guide in, after he died. The Guide will only spawn if: It’s daytime. This is the same for all NPCs, except an NPC having previously moved in does not automatically fulfill the criteria for them to move in again. For example, if your Guide dies, another Guide may move into a house. If an NPC dies, then the game just acts as if the NPC had never been in the house in the first place. Try building a second house and make sure it’s valid. If using a Guide Voodoo Doll, the Guide must be alive to summon the Wall of Flesh, otherwise the boss doesn’t appear. The Guide, like any other friendly NPC, will not respawn unless it is day. Their spawn conditions aren’t met anymore. There’s three reasons why an NPC might not respawn: They don’t have appropriate housing. ![]()
